The Atlantic Wall was: The Atlantic Wall was a 17th-century project of military fortifications along the northern coast of France, conceived by Louis XIV in response to the military challenges of the Thirty Years War. The wall was intended to protect France not only from foreign forces but from rebellious provinces, block non-French entry into French-controlled territory, and impede the movement of the Dutch into Frances North Sea ports.
